A New Contributor to BohoMamma: Melissa is a strong one. She writes that she is a “woman who is still a girl in so many ways.” Hardly. If life makes one a woman, then Melissa is nearing old age.

Melissa grew up in a Southern town, much like me.

She moved around a bit, much like me.

She found love, she lost love, much like all of us.

She is a survivor of Stage 3C Ovarian Cancer.

That battle left her rearranging her plans for life.

She was a “domestic goddess” and a goddess nurse in her former life. Now, she is a woman who is looking and thinking and visualizing new dreams. We like that – it’s a very BohoMamma way of being. She likes fashion. She loves animals. She asked what she could write about as a contributor to BohoMamma. We suggested she take a page from her life. And so she has.

Melissa will be a contributor to BohoMamma’s Feature Section, The Female Voice, a section of our site where we highlight women writers and bloggers. The topics can be on anything…the format is fiction or nonfiction poetry or rhyme. It’s BohoMamma’s effort at creating a space for women who love to write and women who love to read.

I first met Jessica Young at an event for Project ALS. She walked in wearing a leather jacket (and no matter how fashionably dressed a New Yorker, a woman who walks into an event wearing a leather jacket will capture a few glances because the subtle – or not so subtle – message is she plays by her own rules). She politely asked to join our bowling game and proceeded to go about her business.

And what a business it is. Jessica Young is a chef who primarily works for individual clients and large events. She studied at French Culinary Institute in New York . When I write “chef”, I mean, someone who understands the seasons and its relationship to fresh food; who knows the importance of local foods and organic options; who concentrates on the presentation of food because presentation makes food taste so much better; and, who intuitively understands how different types of food play together to create a menu, which in turn creates an experience.

When Jessica isn’t working for clients, she is working on a cookbook. Jessica will be contributing content to BohoMamma - we’re still figuring out what it all will look like – but, we’re pretty excited about the Vlogs she will offer our readers.

Jessica has flair and attitude and will be changing the way we look at chefs who contribute content in our digital world. Visit Jessica’s website or find her elsewhere on the web:

Contributor to Inspired by Space

There are many things that I have learned about design from growing up in the Deep South. I appreciate the simple beauty of the porch and understand the quiet fabulousness of anything made of white cotton.

Yet, in all of these things there is a down side: in small southern towns, like the city in which I live, there are not many opportunities to experience new things and stretch one’s wings. It is important for me to remain relevant in this world and not let my geographical limitations become intellectual fences.

One of the most valuable resources I have is the Internet. Without it, I would be lost. As a designer, following the blogs of designers and stylists who host current information on design and decor keeps me up to date with the latest happenings in the world of design. I get the benefit everyday of seeing the work of some very talented and creative people. In the mornings before my first meeting, I study the posts of the day, hoping to see something that inspires me to push myself creatively. My morning search never fails me.

The Internet is my virtual classroom and I can go there to study any time I wish. The entire world is open to me, from Thailand to Quebec, I am connected to the other designers and inspired by their vision of the world. While I will continue to have tea on the veranda Sunday afternoons, I will also reach beyond my provincial background to embrace the contemporary in my life and in my design.

Cheryl is a mother to a teenage son and a teenage daughter, a wife, a businesswoman and a designer. And when she’s not taking care of all of that, she takes anger management courses. We’re joking. Cheryl is actually one of those Southern ladies with the proper manners, the biggest heart and a lot of sweetness thrown in the mix.
