Distractions

I think I would lose it if I didn’t have an out from the stress of the day. And by lose it, I mean I identify with a quote I read recently, “She’s standing on the line between giving up and seeing how much more she can take.” For me, my outs are the dark movie theater, the moment I sit in the middle row to the left (How dare you get here before I and take my seat!) with my popcorn and club soda. Sometimes, I close the curtains and watch a movie on Vudu (but this hasn’t happened in much too long). And sometimes, it’s the bath although I tend to share my bath time these days with one or more little ones. But the point is we need distractions. We need breaks from the thoughts and the feelings that rumble through our head. A true distraction must capture our attention and it must be absurd enough to keep us focused on something – anything – for a moment or two.
