The Smallest Details. Happy Mother’s Day.

Our philosophy at BohoMamma is that everything we do in life – the dinners we eat; the flowers we set on our bedside table; the prayers we say to one another as we look across the table; the time we take for ourselves or give to others – hold meaning. Everything. There are some Buddhist tendencies to this philosophy, which essentially asks that we find purpose and meaning in all aspects of our lives and that we remain present in the moment. Strange way to open a story about the little things we hope will find their way into your Mother’s Day, but that is the point. Continue reading “The Smallest Details. Happy Mother’s Day.” »

Poll: Do You Get Enough You Time?

Toni Morrison was featured in this week’s New York Magazine and was quoted as saying, “All of my life is doing something for somebody else”; “whether I’m being a good wife, a good lover, a good teacher – and that’s all that. The only thing I do for me is writing.” Continue reading “Poll: Do You Get Enough You Time?” »

Shag Carpet May Lead to Depression

Let’s file this under, “May Require Long-term Analysis”. I am a child of the 1970s/1980s. This fact, in and of itself, did not cause major trauma. However, my father did not put great stock in home decor and when he (or, one of the eighty Step Monsters) did, their choices were not what I had in mind because there was no updating involved. By updating I mean the normal things, such as paint. There were, however, attempts to add to our 1960s disharmonious decor with furniture of the times, i.e., 1970s – 1980s. Do you see the bad turn this article is about to take?  Continue reading “Shag Carpet May Lead to Depression” »

The First BohoMamma Book

BohoMamma has been thinking an awful lot about how to create revenue for our site while
maintaining our original goal of creating an online magazine for women that can be perused
as an experience – a timeout from life; a infusion of inspiration; a site free of outside
and background noise; and, a site worthy of our reader’s time. Continue reading “The First BohoMamma Book” »

Hats Made of Straw

How does one do it? How does one weave a hat of straw and create a finished product that serves as art upon our head? It seems magical. Or, perhaps it is the magic and the grace which carries the hat that is the thing which makes that hat seem so special.  Continue reading “Hats Made of Straw” »

Blossoming Branches

We have a little place in East Hampton. It’s a perfect house for the kids to play outside, to discover nature and to walk to the Bay to contemplate. The house needs refreshing and is in need of a new paint job, but it holds several experiences that will keep it close to my heart.
