BohoMamma’s Newsfeed for August 02, 2012

  • Kofi Annan has “retired” his post as the envoy to Syria, after months of working to broker a peace deal between government factions and rebel forces. The Washington Post reports that Mr. Annan stated his reasons as “scathing criticism of world powers’ failure to unite to stop the chaos in the Arab state.” The AP reports that Mr. Annan stated to a press conference that the “former U.N. secretary-general told reporters that he cannot go on when the New York-based, 15-nation Security Council doesn’t fully back him, particularly because of the stalemate between its five veto-wielding members: Russia and China on one side, the United States, Britain and France on the other.”
  • There is video of Syrian rebels executing government forces, which is circulating the web. I saw stills from the video…I cannot look at the actual footage. Most observers are now referring to what began as a peaceful protest against government in Syria 17-months ago, as a civil war.
  • Time is reporting that Dr. Lynne Fenton, the psychiatrist who was treating the Aurora, Colorado shooter, James Holmes, reported his behavior to the University of Colorado’s Behavioral Evaluation and Threat Assessment Team.
  • Throngs of Chick-fil-A supporters turned out in appreciation of Chick-fil-A for what is being dubbed “National Chick-fil-A” Appreciation Day”. I never thought I’d see the day. Actually, I never thought about it really. I mean, I never drove by the Chick-fil-A restaurant and thought to myself, “they need a day of appreciation.” There is a national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A scheduled for August 3, 2012. Let us just agree that no one wants (nor do many believe it is what is actually going on) a Christian crusade in this country and let us understand that members of the LGBT community have a right to raise awareness of CEO’s views of their living in sin.
