What Happened to Abbey’s Mom? by Megan Feldman of 5280 The Denver Magazine

This is a story! Truly a story and so wonderfully written and full of suspense an heart ache. Abbey’s mom was a survivor of the Columbine Shootings. Later, at the age of of twenty five, Abbey’s mom was six-months pregnant and diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. This is the story of Abbey’s mom.

One of our favorite sites is called Letters of Note, a collection of letters written by famous artists, writers and politicians. If you want to enjoy a few minutes of well-spent time or possibly hone your craft, peruse the list of letters. You won’t be disappointed.

In Nothing Good Gets Away, John Steinbeck (The Grapes of Wrath, Of Mice and Men) writes to his young son Thom, who is away at boarding school, about love. What is so fascinating to me is how respectful the elder Steinbeck is – both in the words he chooses for his son and in the respect he offers for his son’s pronouncement that he has fallen in love at the age of 14. The letter (and others on the site) has inspired me to write more often and with more thought to those in my own life.

State by State, It’s Still Obama by Michael Tomasky of The Daily Beast/Newsweek

If you happened to have caught sight of the recent NBC/WSJ article poll which showed Obama and Romney in a dead heat for the Presidency, this article may ease your mind a bit (if, you plan on voting for Obama). Michael Tomasky offers his insight into which states Obama will carry and into why Obama will carry the electoral college. Mr. Tomasky writes, ”he can give eight of the nine (states) back, as long as the one he wins is Florida, and he hits 275 EV’s.”
